One Big Softball Post

I'm lacking in my writing. I know, and I apologize. Here's a wrap up of softball from the past month:

I am currently on two teams in two different leagues. The first is in a league that is strictly for fun and unit cohesion around the Wiesbaden area. There are 7 teams in this league and I'm on the one composed of individuals whose unit or office doesn't have enough people to field a team so they all just joined this one. This is the same team/league I played in last year and had alot of fun and won second place at the end of the season. This year we are right back on track with a 7-1 record halfway through the season. The guys here are extremely talented and aside from one bad night we have been blowing the competition away. We don't have uniforms as we are just out for fun, that's why I am still wearing the one I had while in Japan.

Slugging Away

"Argueably the best Left Center Fielder in the league". Someone else's words, not mine.

Last week as a lead up to the 4th of July celebrations there was a one pitch tournament. It was a whole new way of playing as if anything was close to a strike you had to swing to save yourself from being an out. We got beat early in the double elimination tournament but came back around from the losers bracket. We forced a two game championship and won the final game 14-0 to win the team trophy in which I accepted on behalf of the team from the base commander on the 4th of July.

Holding up the team prize for getting First

The team

The second team I am on is a bit more competetive and pits the best from each military community against each other. It's pretty much the All Star team from Wiesbaden. We have played in two tournaments and being the young/inexperienced team we are were one of the first teams to go home each time. Other communities who have alot more people stationed there have the advantage over us in that they have been playing since April and most of the guys rarely leave the team so the same group of guys is playing together for half of the year. We are still practicing and have a couple more tournaments left in the season.

Getting one of the few team hits in the Mannheim tournament.

The agony of defeat

That is great Nick, hope you continue to kick butt. Trophies are nice indeed. Our team lost players to moves and injury, so we aren't quite where we have been. But its still fun, sort of. Looks like you are enjoying yourself and that is what is important. Keep up the good work.
