Air Craft Carrier Visit To Sasebo

Last week we welcomed the third Aircraft Carrier to Sasebo since I've been stationed here. This time it was the USS NIMITZ from San Diego. I had missed out on touring the last two that came here and figuring this might be my chance to board one I asked our public affairs office if I could go aboard. Another friend of mine expressed interest in the ship so I requested, and got, two passes. It was mostly Japanese civilians that were with us as they all had cameras or notepads, I assumed they were from the local papers.

We took a small tour boat out to the aft of the carrier. From there they took us to the Hangar Bay and showed us around there. Since we were a large group they split us up. Once the group touring the flight deck was done we switched and went up there. The view of the Sasebo Harbor was great. The bad thing was that it was freaking cold, and the wind was blowing pretty well. It kind of truncated our flight deck tour because no one wanted to stay up there too long. We snapped some pictures and then headed back down. The ship was huge, I didnt count exact;y how many jets were on it but there were alot.
