Training in Iwakuni
We went up to the Marine Base at Iwakuni last week. We trained all week and got a day off at the end went to Miyajima Island that was pretty close to the base. The pic on my profile now is in front of the floating torii gate. We got there at low tide so you can still see the ground in some places. We toured the island for a couple hours and then headed back to Sasebo.

Sounds like Iwakuni was all right. There is a recent book out on Iwakuni, the base, and the local citizens that might be of interest. Called Meeting the Enemy, Becoming a Friend it is about one woman's struggles with finding her place in Iwakuni and working with the local citizens and military personel.
