1st Stop: Guam

I know I said it might be a while before I could write again but I got some time while being down here in Guam. This is the 2nd stop for the ship and where our vet is stationed I flew down here to join up with her and board down here. I got in last night and met up with a friend I had down here and we went out and walked around the touristy part of the island. I got a couple of pictures and went to the Hard Rock Cafe, that was about all I had the energy for after he flight.

Today me and the vet that I will be travelling with went and checked in with the ship. We brought aboard all of our supplies and some of the ones they were already supposed to have they didn't. So we spent a good chunk of the afternoon trying to order more stuff to be shipped to our first destination. No telling if it will happen but we will make do with what we have, our biggest concern is using up everything our first couple of stops and not having any supplies for the remainder of the deployment.

The shipboard personnel have been friendly and understanding for two people that have never been on a ship before, it should make for an interesting couple of months. We have to be on board tommorow night and then we ship off Tuesday morning. I know of three stops where we will have time off, maybe if I find the internet there I will write more, but like always no promises.

A Little Absence

I'm going to take a break from posting for a couple of months while I am deployed to Southeast Asia aboard a naval ship conducting humanitarian missions. I will try to get on here and let everyone know how I am doing but there are no guarantees. I won't be back in Japan until October. At that point start checking back alot because I'm sure I'll have alot to talk about! Have a Great Summer and BE SAFE!!!

Memorial Day Weekend 2007

Wow. What a weekend weather wise. This time of the year here you are lucky if you get two nice days back to back, and they are never on the weekend. But for the long holiday the rain stayed away everyday. It started off rainy Friday night forcing us to cancel our softball games but the rest was nice and sunny.

Finally getting out to some of the places that are very close to the apartment I found some nice look outs over the 99 Islands that I wrote about last year. There were some great photo opportunities on the semi-clear day. Anybody who has seen Tom Cruise's "The Last Samurai" saw this view in the opening scenes. There is a little billboard telling about it next to the lookout.

Also on Sunday I went to the Sasebo Zoo and Botanical Garden which is about a five minute drive from my house. It was ok, but nothing spectacular. It was weird looking at animals in cages again after seeing them up close (and even interacting with them) in Thailand. But none the less animals are animals and it was a great way to kill an afternoon. The giraffe below seems to be infatuated with the wall, I wasn't sure what was going on but he didn't seem to care that I was filming him.

I got to Sasebo's little beach on Monday to soak up some of the rays knowing there weren't going to be too many people there. Shirahama beach is about a 20 minute drive from my house. There's not much to it, but its popular amongst the locals in the middle of summer. I hear its a pretty hoppin place in season but I've only ever gone outside of the 2 month window.
